DIABETES AND HEART HEALTH

The medical community continues to acknowledging the health benefits of almonds in persons at risk of and suffering from Diabetes.  A recent article by SmartCooky explains why people suffering from Diabetes should be snacking on almonds for the sake of their hearts.

The article highlights a recent study published in the Journal Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders, which showed that daily consumption of almonds could significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in people suffering from Type 2 diabetes and improve their overall health. This is because including almonds as part of a healthy lifestyle and diet could help improve cardiovascular risk factors and glycaemic control.

“The benefits of almonds are known by all, but it is the first free-living study that tried “to demonstrate the health benefits of including almonds in the diet among Asian Indians with type 2 diabetes,” said Dr Seema Gulati, lead researcher of the study.
