Montagu Cranberries
Plump, succulent and perfectly sweet, dried cranberries are known for being some of nature’s tastiest treats. Enjoyed in cakes, bakes, in sauces or by the handful, dried cranberries have a well-earned rep for their versatility and, of course, their health benefits.

If you weren’t crazy about cranberries already, you will be when you hear that a recent study discovered that eating dried cranberries regularly may reduce the recurrence of urinary tract infections in women who are prone to UTIs.

Wow. This certainly changes things.

Cranberry juice has played a huge role in the prevention of UTIs for decades. But researchers are now finding that the health benefits of dried cranberries could be game-changing for the treatment of recurring UTIs.

So, what does this mean for you as a woman? Well, if you tend to struggle with UTIs, and dried cranberries have only ever been a friendly acquaintance in your diet’s social order... it’s time for them to join your inner circle.

Dried cranberries could just be your new best friends.

The painful problem with UTIs

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common, and most uncomfortable, bacterial infections that women tend to experience. So much so that it is estimated that over 50% of women will contract a UTI at some point during their lifetime. While UTIs are more common in women, men can get them too.

But whether you’re a woman or a man, the consensus is the same: UTIs are a pain. And they are painful.

When diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, people usually receive treatments for the bacterial infection itself, such as antibiotics. However, this can lead to a buildup of drug-resistant bacteria, which means that treating recurring UTIs can become more difficult.

A recent study investigated more natural and nutritional strategies for the prevention of urinary tract infections, specifically through the use of dried cranberries. It is suggested that dried cranberries may contain a different spectrum of polyphenolics (micronutrients found in certain plant-based foods loaded with antioxidants and other health benefits) than cranberry juice, which is believed to support the prevention of UTIs.

The primary objectives of the study were to determine if the consumption of sweetened, dried cranberries decreases recurrent UTIs and whether this intervention would change the bacteria profile or the number of intestinal E. coli present in the urinary tract.

An overview of the study

A sample of twenty women struggling with recurring urinary tract infections participated in this study. Each participant had to consume one serving (one quarter cup) of dried cranberries daily for two weeks in order to determine whether including them in their diets would have any significant impact on the number of recurring UTIs post-study.

The results

More than 10 participants reported that they did not experience a urinary tract infection within six months of the study, and the average rate of UTI cases per six months decreased significantly.

What does this mean? The results from this study suggest that eating dried cranberries regularly may reduce cases of urinary tract infections in women who are prone to contract UTIs.

Our cranberries are of superior quality, something that is evident in the dynamic natural colour of the dried berries. We start this process by carefully selecting the highest quality cranberries and maintaining this quality throughout the production process. Through patented and proprietary technologies and the addition of minimal sugar, the infusion and drying process of Montagu cranberries is gently controlled, which helps retain their natural crimson colour, tart-sweet flavour and overall premium quality.

The cranberries are carefully treated to ensure that their natural juices don’t leak out during processing. These whole cranberries retain more nutrients and flavour with small seeds.
